Afghanistan 2018-2020: Candidate for the UN Human Rights Council

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has been nominated to become a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2018- 2020 period. Membership elections will be held during the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations in 2017 in New York.

Afghanistan has had the opportunity to work with the international community to promote respect for human rights, establish the necessary institutions, and adopt laws to protect the rights of all Afghans in the country. Hence, Afghanistan has the potential and necessary experience to serve as a member and assist the UNHRC in achieving its goals and objectives.
