Afghanistan’s Chief Executive Visits Washington

Afghanistan’s Chief Executive, Abdullah Abdullah, visited Washington on November 15, 2017. During his trip, Chief Executive Abdullah focused on the future of Afghanistan in light of the new US strategy announced for Afghanistan and South Asia. 

At an event at CSIS on November 14th, Chief Executive Abdullah discussed the new US strategy, regional dynamics of security in Afghanistan, reforms agenda, and progress for peace and stability in the country. Click here for the full conversation. 

On November 15th, Chief Executive Abdullah addressed participants of the Special Operations Policy Forum at the New America Foundation. The forum was a joint effort of the Global SOF Foundation, New America, the University of Texas, and Arizona State University. In his keynote speech, Chief Executive Abdullah said that with the help of the international community, especially the United States, millions of people in Afghanistan and the region have escaped the common threat of terrorism. 

Also during his trip, Chief Executive Abdullah met with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to discuss the US-Afghanistan compact and reaffirm each country’s commitment to achieving the goals outlined in the agreement.
