On July 7, Ambassador Hamdullah Mohib met with Senator Christopher Coons to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan as the Trump Administration is now in the final stages of announcing its new Afghan strategy.
In the discussion, Ambassador Mohib highlighted the achievements made by the Afghan people with the help of the international community. He said that we are aware of our problems and continuing to find solutions, but engagement from the international community in essential- particularly that of the United States as a foundational partner to Afghanistan.
The Democratic senator from Delaware said he’s encouraged by the changes in Afghanistan but noted that there is still a long road ahead to achieve a lasting peace and sustainable development.
Both the Ambassador and Senator agreed on the importance of creating more job opportunities, reaching out to rural communities, and improving government services within Afghanistan in order to best serve the Afghan people. These efforts will also lead to engaging Afghanistan’s neighbors and the regional powers in order to end violence and bring peace to Afghanistan.
