Ambassador Mohib Briefs U.S. Army Airborne Division Officials on Security Situation in Afghanistan

On February 28, 2018, Afghan Ambassador to the United States H.E. Hamdullah Mohib met with Major General Andrew P. Poppas, Commanding General of 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Brigadier General Richard Johnson, Deputy Commanding General of 101st Airborne Division; and Brigadier General John W. Brennan Jr., Deputy Commanding General of Operations 101st Airborne Division at the Embassy of Afghanistan. 

Key issues regarding Afghanistan’s security were discussed, including the progress of the government’s four-year security plan, efforts to develop Afghanistan’s special forces, the impact of the new U.S. strategy for South Asia and Afghanistan, prospects for peace talks with the Taliban, the growing capacity of the Afghan Security Forces, and the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections.

On behalf of the delegation, Major General Andrew P. Poppas reiterated America’s support for Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism. Ambassador Mohib thanked them for their sacrifices and long term support for the country.
