Ambassador Mohib Inaugurates Afghan Cultural Center in Houston, TX

Afghan Ambassador to the US, H.E. Hamdullah Mohib, traveled to Houston, Texas on January 12th to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Afghan Cultural Center. He told attendees, “Today we establish this cultural center to further nourish the Afghan-US partnership”. He spoke about nurturing the relationship further through the Sister Cities program, connecting Houston and Kabul through its communities and universities. Ambassador Mohib concluded his remarks by thanking the Afghan diaspora in Houston for their efforts in working to expand the Afghan-US partnership. Click here for his full remarks. 

Alongside Ambassador Mohib, Representative and Co-chair of the Congressional Afghanistan Caucus, Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas honored the Afghan Cultural Center. She said, “America stands ready to say that all are welcome in this country. Please accept my hand of friendship which is only beginning and growing.” Texas Representative Gene Wu addressed guests following Congresswoman Lee. He said, “Houston prides itself on its diversity and we are so happy to welcome the Afghan-American community here to our city.” Attendees also heard from Author and Diplomat, Joanne King Herring and Mayor Sylvester Turner.
