Embassy hosts Mining Signing Contract Ceremony

The Embassy of Afghanistan hosted the Balkh Copper and Badakhshan Gold Contract Signing Ceremony between HE Ms. Nehan Nargis, Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan, and Mr. Sadat Naderi from CENTAR Ltd.

Ms. Madina Qasimi, Minister Counselor and Chargé d’Affaires gave welcoming remarks at the ceremony. She stated, “the agreement that will be signed today is a milestone. It marks the Afghan government’s commitment to the private sector.” Ms. Qasimi added, “Afghanistan is moving toward self-reliance and the private sector can play a key role in helping the country move forward. As we work together to develop partnerships between the private sector and the government, we expect it will increase employment, and sustainable inclusive economic development.”

Minister Nehan Nargis spoke about the transparency process when signing a new contract, as well as the development of new regulations in the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan. Minister Nargis believes that the mutual partnership with the private sector and the Afghan government will have a social impact leading to the creation of jobs. She mentioned that HE President Ghani has stressed the need for thorough and transparent investigations for any and all contract with the government.

Dr. Humayon Qayoumi, Acting Minister of Finance, attended the event and spoke about the Afghan government’s commitment to have open and rigorous processes in every sector. In addition, he thanked the private sector for their support in projects that help improve the quality of life of people. He also mentioned the Ministry of Finance achievements, including the rise of national revenue.

Mr. Ian Hannam, Founder and Chairman of CENTAR, and Mr. Sadat Naderi, CENTAR representative also gave a few remarks about the organization’s work in the field of mining. They mentioned CENTAR’s commitment to Afghanistan and how this partnership will be transformative for the country since it will provide a sustainable revenue, increasing social stability. Mr. Hannam and Mr. Naderi believe the mining sector will contribute to a more prosperous and peaceful Afghanistan.
