Local Afghans Join Embassy in Honoring Victims of Recent Terror Attacks

On the evening of June 8th, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan cohosted a candle light vigil in honor of the martyrs and lives lost during the weeks string of deplorable terror attacks. The Afghan community had requested such an event be conducted, and the embassy was pleased to take on such a locally lead initiative. The event began with a communal prayer of Maghreb (the fourth canonical, obligatory prayer offered by Muslims worldwide after sunset, often prayed in groups). The embassy staff and guests then participated in the breaking of the fast (Iftar), where authentic Afghan food and desserts were served. Throughout the event, community members recited various speeches and poems, as well as scriptures from the Holy Qur’aan. Political Counselor Mr. Abdul Nafay Sana, and Cultural Attaché, Mr. Majeed Qarar, spoke alongside the Afghan diaspora community on condemning the cowardly terror attacks and pledging embassy support here in the Afghan community and with our brothers and sisters back home in Afghanistan.
